Dublin: Media mecca

After I caught the bug for RSS syndication of my site, I found this cool RSS site called LocalFeeds that allows you to track down all the sites within a specific geographic area. This site has accidentally made a New Media Mecca of my neigborhood, because one of my neighbors is J.D. Lasica of New Media Musings fame.

If you click on this link you’ll see all the blogs within five miles of my zip code that have configured their sites to create these local feeds. See, I told J.D. about LocalFeeds the other day, so of course he was hot to include his site as well. And because LocalFeeds is so new — and because certain obscure coding must be added to one’s blog to make it work — this little part of California has become Ground Zero for media talk. But only if you click on the LocalFeeds link.

This seemed like a cool illustration of how early adopters of technology create certain illusions because they’re the only ones using the technology.

By the way, I live in Dublin and J.D. lives in Pleasanton, two sister suburbs about 40 miles from San Francisco. There’s nothing much out here but hills, subdivisions, chain stores and the Interstate. But who knows where it could go now that we’ve made it an Important Media Destination?
