Dave Miller has been sending GPS/Google maps of his Northern California hikes to Backpacker magazine for some time, but his blog has been around only since July ’08. The most recent post is a gem: he goes to Cloud’s Rest at Yosemite and finds a bunch of folks have rigged a one-wheeled contraption to take a paraplegic to the famed Yosemite Valley overlook.
So far most of his posts have been Sierra-centric, though he does have one post full of GPS/Google maps for hikes at Bay Area faves like Big Basin and Point Reyes.
Nice posts and pretty pictures abound.
Tom,
Thanks for the kind words and the referral. I’m new to this blogging stuff, but having fun sharing. I appreciate all the information you share. Keep up the great work!
The account of taking the young man up to the summit of Clouds Rest chronicles a remarkable achievement! I day hiked Clouds Rest this summer from the Sunrise TH. It’s a 14 miles round trip with some steep rough sections involved. Well done to a fine group of people!
Don: that was quite remarkable … I suppose on some level we should ask ourselves if we are good people and judge the reply on whether we do the equivalent of taking the paraplegic guy to Cloud’s Rest. It’s a tall standard, perhaps too tall, but worth striving for.
Amen Tom!
