Turns out the Mercury News wants at least one more hiking related item: a Sunday travel cover feature recommending five great late-summer hikes within a day’s drive of San Jose.
The hikes are Panorama Trail at Yosemite, Lassen Peak summit, Mission Peak at sunset, Tomales Point at Point Reyes, and the Ohlone Bluff Trail at Wilder Ranch State Park.
Check ’em out and add your thoughts.
So, when are we all going to meet up and do all five? 🙂
That would be fun… and we’ve got Mission Peak already out of the way!
Good ‘uns, all. I’ve yet to do Mission Peak this year..maybe next month?
We’re off to roll down the original Transcontinental Rail bed tomorrow, my last hurrah before returning to work Monday after a long hiatus. Will park at Sugar Bowl and go as long as we can. It’s easy, as railroads use rather gentle grades. Taking the Corolla means only a half tank or less to make it a good day trip.
Those are 5 cool ones. Have yet to get up Lassen this year either, come to think of it, though we did stop for lunch coming back from Lava Beds Nat’l Monument a couple of weeks ago. We should have a smoke – free fall season because everything will have burned by then, eh?
Well, after not hiking since mid-June I finally got out this weekend and did the Berry Creek Falls loop at Big Basin. And oh my, I can’t believe how out of shape I am. I struggeled on that hike today and it should have been a piece of cake, easy as grandma’s pudding. Oh man, I’m tired. And I went there as I wanted to get the tracks from my GPS for the hike and update my hiking website with a map and profile of the hike. And wouldn’t you know it? I forgot to turn the tracks feature on and came away with nothing. Guess I’ll have to go back. Oh well.
