Just happened upon this blog this morning: Mount Whitney and Eastern Sierra Hiking. It’s the latest addition to this site devoted to all things Whitney. Coolest link I found there: A Whitney Portal Store BBS post showing how many of the prized Whitney permits go unused every day. Bottom line: if you can get there on a weekday, you should be able to get on the trail.
thanks for the post. It’s still on my must-do one day & I’m not a backpacker so I’ll have to learn that too.
“All work and no play make John a dull boy”. Make sense isn’t it? Yeah, even though machines deserve to have a break. Especially us people, we often get tired and fed up with the everyday work. Try something new. Hiking will be of great help when it comes to therapeutic getaway.
Hi,
(is this the right place to post this question about hiking Mt. Whitney?)
I am hoping to hike Mt. Whitney on Sun, Aug 31, 2008 but do not have a permit. Given that is the Labor Day weekend should I pretty much give up on the idea? It will be a good 400+ mile drive from San Jose. I keep caling the ranger station every day to see if anyone has cancelled but it does not look like anything will happen until a couple of days before the actual date.
Any guidance will be appreciated.
Regards
