(There used to be a poll here, but I took it down because it seemed to be causing system difficulties. I’m leaving the text intact because the questions generated interesting feedback).
I figured out how to add polls to the ol’ blog here. I know these are really just brain candy at best, unscientific at worst and a disgrace to the very concept of reliable opinion research (all the more reason to do it, since almost all opinions are woefully uninformed — present company excluded, naturally).
Thing about polls is, I look like a pathetic wretch with an audience consisting of his wife and mother-in-law if nobody votes in the damn things. So: do your duty and vote (Chicago-style not allowed — only one vote to a customer).
If your fave isn’t in the poll, add a suggestion in the comments.
I’m afraid this reader lives a long, long way from the Bay and has done no hiking in that area. So I voted for the coolest sounding name just to keep with the generally un-scientific theme we have going ; )
Hey, Wheres Mt. Sizer?
🙂
Well, I couldn’t very well leave out the trail where I leave the most footprints: Alum Rock Park. It’s mostly my favorite because it’s walking distance.
Others that I might’ve included: Murietta Falls, Purissima Open Space Preserve, Mission Peak, Sunol Wilderness … maybe I’ll work those into the next poll.
I was kind of hoping for the hike to my local 7-11. ;^p
The only hiking I’ve done in California (I live in Minnesota) has been in Yosemite National Park. I have great memories of hiking solo for a week in the afternoons while I attended a conference in the mornings. I also took a short 2-nighter along the John Muir trail during that same week. I camped at 7000 feet on a ledge behind Half Dome and was the only one there to enjoy a spectacular sunset after a day of hiking Cloud’s Rest and Half Dome. That has to be among the handful of “best days I’ve ever had.”
Looks like future polls will have to account for readers outside the Bay Area. I just did this one for practice to get the software set up.
(Then again, if you’re not from around here, you’ll know where to go if you ever end up in the neighborhood.)
I voted for the Pinnacles, but one of my absolute favorite local hikes is Whittemore Gulch at Purisima Creek Redwoods OSP.
Been busy hiking, and so far my favorite has been Purisima Creek Redwoods.
