Cheryl Norlin, one of my Carrizo Plain camping cohorts of last weekend, sent this picture of me taking a picture:
I’m pretty sure this is the picture I was taking:
This originally was a vertical that I cropped into this shape … since I’m holding the camera vertically in the above shot it seems most likely that this is the actual shot or one of a series taken then and there.
You look comfortable there 😉 I took a shot like that at Coe once and later on discovered I was being attacked by biting ants. Not the only time I’ve had to strip down on the trail to combat tiny insects, usually ticks.
Tom, I could never lie down like what you did. I’m tick paranoid! RandyL: Biting ants? yikes!
The area around the Plain is so bone dry I doubt there are many ticks, but ants could’ve been a problem.
Interestingly, this area where we were breaking for lunch had amazingly soft ground… would’ve been wonderful to camp on.
Randy: I had the tick attack sure enough when I tried this the last time I was at Coe. Knocked only a few off this time, as opposed to the dozens it might’ve been during wetter springs.
There were suprisingly few ticks at Coe when I was there last weekend. Lots of poision oak tho 🙂
Ann: Only a few got through my clothing, but I didn’t know what was happening. I thought some small splinter was poking me or something. The place I had lied down was covered with wild grasses, and it was spring (flower shot). Not thinkin’
I’ve had my share of ticks too. When my wife and I hike together we occationally do spot checks of each others clothing.
