Rick from Hike Halfdome was up there the other day. He suggests:
North Face has a huge outlet store – a real outlet, not a Gilroy come-on. They had 50% off winter jackets. Thank they deities that winter is almost over, but if you need an update to modern apparel check them out. Men’s and women’s stuff and some backpacks as well. A lot of the store was 30 – 50% off the lowest sticker price. Many had previously been marked down. Another nearby outlet is Royal Robbins. They have rugged outdoor clothing. Lots of trail pants and shirts marked way down from list.
… and a couple more if you’re in a clickin’ mood.
Throughout the 1980’s and early 1990’s, they had such a store in Palo Alto.
And back around the turn of the millennium they had one in south San Jose… about two miles from where I live… on the route between my home and my then-favorite hiking spot.
I stopped in, I’m embarrassed to say, nearly every Saturday. At first I would just look for cheap stuff and maybe pick it up. Eventually I figured out that certain strategies could be employed. First, know what you need and watch for it – it will show up eventually and I’d be ready. Also, if they had a lot of something I wanted I would wait – it all goes on a 50% off sale eventually and ends up at ridiculously low prices.
