I’m heading up to Black Diamond Mines, a place I keep meaning to check out but keep letting the long drive scare me off. Enough of that.
If you’re up for a combined post-Ground Hog Day and pre-Super Bowl hike at Henry Coe on Feb. 3, drop a note in the comments of the post below this one.
i was there a while ago. Check out Prospect Tunnel-bring a flashlight. That plus views of the snow-capped Sierras are the highlight for me. I gotta plan a trip out there March-Nov when that one mine is open for a fee.
Parking is FREE weekdays, only on weekends when someone’s there do u have to pay.
One of my favorites. If I have just a little time, I’ll take the Old Homestead Loop. If I have a day or an overnight, check out Stewartville Trail out to the backpack camp.
It’s bound to be pretty empty on a monday this time of year. Enjoy it, don’t miss the Visitor Center in the mine tunnel.
Tom, what hike / loop did you have in mind?
