Guess that ankle’s healed, he finished two 30-milers in 2007.
More importantly:
I’m planning on working much less and hiking much more in 2008.
At least he’s getting his priorities in order.
Just noticed he’s got big plans for 2008.

Actually, priority one is getting off my fat butt and losing the 20 lbs I put on in ’07.
Happy New Year everyone.
Well, don’t try to take it all off on the weekends… it’ll just make your week hellish.
My 2007 season was also cut short due to injuries. In early September, I stepped wrong on a 1 inch high curb and severely sprained my right ankle (I couldn’t even walk on it the short distance to get home…a friend had to take me home in her car). Even now, it is still generally stiff and a bit painful when I try to do range-of-motion exercises. I didn’t have a doctor look at it at the time — it seemed like just another of the many sprains I’ve sufferred over the years. In retrospect, I probably should have.
Then, maybe 6 weeks later, I decided it had healed enough for me to get back on the running trail. I had managed several runs with no real problems (I had the ankle well taped). On the 3rd or 4th run, I stepped wrong on the edge of the asphalt running trail and sprained my LEFT ankle. This one wasn’t nearly as bad — I was actually able to finish my run with no real pain, but when I got home it swelled up like a softball.
So, here it is early January and I’ve slowly started to run again. The left ankle is pretty much back to normal, but the right ankle still feels “not normal.” I had to cancel several hiking trips last year because of the sprains. Hopefully, 2008 will be different.
In fact, I’m actually considering doing a half-…um, well, that’s a story for another day.
