Veronica Ruiz has been missing since Dec. 3. Authorities have called off the search since no trace of her was found at Mount Tamalpais. A new site has been set up to coordinate volunteers who are forging ahead with the search. Link here. Searches are happening today and tomorrow.
More on the search effort at this yelp.com page.
Veronica’s mom showed up at the workplace of this blogger looking for help in the search.
I remain puzzled about why the authorities stopped the search on Tam. If they think she’s not alive, they should be searching for her body, don’t you think?
I wonder if there’s some other info that has the authorities pulling back; maybe they’re not releasing this because it would compromise the case.
Weird.
Hard to speculate on their motivations. Even those with all the facts don’t know what to do with them.
Some folks at another blog wondered why the media haven’t latched onto the story. Might be because there’s no unusual, eyeball-attracting twist.
I read in one account she sometimes carried a gun for her job — that seems juicy.
Yes, and the weapon could not be accounted for, reportedly.
But there are any of a zillion reasons why that could’ve happened (could’ve been stolen, lost), and any of a zillion things that could’ve happened besides her going off in the woods and ending it all.
I actually am fairly certain I saw her on Monday about 300 meters from the trailhead of Blithedale ridge. It was between 12:30pm and 1:00pm and I was coming down from the loop with my friend, we passed her as she was heading up. I noticed her because she was by herself and seemed upset. Also, she was wearing shorts and it was cold. I called the detective from MVPD and reported what I saw. I too find it odd that this is “just going away”. There must be something else going on with this case. I sure hope they find her. My heart goes out to her family.
Toni: odds are if you saw a woman fitting that description at that time of day, it was her … most trails are unpopulated on weekdays, especially when it’s off-season, tourism-wise.
Tam’s a big hill, though. If she decided to go off-trail and bushwack and got a few miles in, people looking on trails might never find her.
i’ve never heard of a search being called off after just two days before. What’s with that? Something is fishy.
Carolyn H.
The authorities might have given up for reason disputed, but the family and other people caring are still focused on finding her
Tomorrow and sunday, 15 and 16 December, Jeff Baker, a psychic who volunteers his weekends for this type of search, is flying to SF and will search on and around Mount Tam.
Please be positive and send good vibrations! All is well!

22/23 DEC. Volunteers needed to search for Veronica Ruiz at Mount Tamalpais
-> please post at all the hiker blogs you know!!!
Hi again, here an update and more things you can contribute,
This weekend a great number of people will be going out to Mount Tamalpais above San Francisco Ca. The search is looking for experienced hikers, search dogs and mapping materials. Perhaps you or your organization could consider contributing in some way for the latter. Forwarding the information below by itself is a great help too.
It is greatly appreciated. Here follows there rest of my email, thanks again for listening
I have become involved somewhat in the support of the family searching for their daughter and sister, Veronica Ruiz. She has gone missing since December 3d and the police have given up searching for her. Her family have never ceased the search. They have now asked Jeff Baker, a psychic who volunteers his weekends to find missing persons, to help them pinpoint where Veronica may be in this vast area of the Mount Tamalpais State Park. He has helped narrowing down the search in this vast park of over 25000 acres.
If you have any contacts in any organization that would support this information to be sent to all employees that would be very great. I am happy to share the information I have and have someone edit it into the format that the organization would prefer. Any way we can get the word out in a big way would help the cause.
Perhaps you can print out a couple of copies of this flyer: http://www.helpfindveronicaruiz.com/help_find_veronica_ruiz_flyer2.pdf you can post it in a local store, coffee shop or at work in break rooms at work. Handing out flyers inside BART trains proved to be really effective to me yesterday. People are eager to accept the flyer. Just go to Kinko’s and reproduce a whole bunch and hand them out in the trains.
Every day there are searches. Because of the weather and it being a weekday Monday there were only 4 people including the psychic Jeff Baker. Maybe you can plan to join the effort this coming Saturday or Sunday at day break. You will contribute to a good cause and will get a nice day out in nature as well and it might feel better than donating money. Contact Maricris at 650 222 9578 or at the new email address findveronicaruiz@gmail.com to coordinate. Hopefully this all becomes unnecessary soon!
Maybe you can contribute in other ways as well.
Update: They are going to have a big effort on Saturday and Sunday 22/23 DECEMBER and are in need of :
– People that are experienced hikers to go off the tracks (maybe you know hiking or mountain climbing clubs)
– Search and Rescue dogs and their owners
– Companies to donate breakfast, coffee and lunch for the volunteers
– Corporation to sponsor reward money for any information leading to the finding of Veronica
– Any practical ideas are really welcomed
Phone investigation are indicating that she is really on Mount Tam
With kind regards,
Arjen
