One of my LinkedIn contacts from last week said “looks like somebody’s looking for a job.” As recently as the day before yesterday I could be in denial and say “not really, I’m just considering all opportunities.” Yesterday the news came that I get to remain in denial for another 12 days until my glorious employer decides who stays and who goes in the next round of cuts.
If any of y’all happen to be an editor, publisher, publicity slinger or billionaire hiker benefactor in the market for somebody who can write great stories, edit the gunk out of them, take pretty good pictures, design pretty good pages, decipher impossible publishing systems and create totally cool blogs read by other cool people like yourself, now would be a good time to drop me a line. I expect my job’ll survive the next round of cuts, but there’s no harm in being prepared.
You were the first I thought of as I heard that news on Channel 11 last night. I cross my fingers that it works for you not just through this round, but into the foreseeable future.
Newspapers are a tough business these days. Maybe it’s time to write books? I may simply bite the bullet soon, though…so if the billionaire happens to contact you, boy, have I got a project!
