Wildebeat wraps up its reports on hiking poles. From his script:
JULIANNE ABENDROTH-SMITH: Well what we saw in that study was as — at the lesser slope, the fifteen degree slope… some people used the poles very effectively, a lot of people didn’t seem to make use of the poles at all whether they had one or two in terms of going downhill. As the slope got steeper, then we saw a distinct difference in terms of both men and women tended to use the poles, did much better in terms of un-weighting, especially men, lessened the forces really well. Women didn’t un-weight so much, but seemed to use the poles as a balance factor. Then at the steepest slope, when we got them at twenty five degrees, then everybody used the poles much better in terms of being able to un-weight or being able to lessen those forces on their joints. And two poles was still better than one pole, but one pole is still better than no poles.
Steve also links to a fine site for finding pole tips: AdventureBuddies.net
I think I should link to the actual show rather than the script here:
Using All Fours, part 2
So Steve, why post a script if you don’t want anybody to link to it? It’s actually very handy for those who are a work and can’t listen w/out bothering their neighbors. Also, I can read much faster than listening.
Frankly, I was wondering why I had been performing a disservice to my readers all this time by linking only to the audio.
I suppose in the future I could link to both.
You bring up a good point. The reasons we’ve always posted our transcripts are (at least) two-fold: 1) To give the search-engines more to find, making it easier for people to find our site, and 2) in consideration of the hearing-impaired (or bandwidth deprived).
As a response to your posting, this monring we added links at the top of each script page, linking back to the associated program. This will make it easier for people who found our shows by way of the transcript to experience the richness of our original audio work, rather then a mere plain-text distillation of it. 😉
