A clear sky before dawn has a certain almost-purple cast that seems to be visible only on backcountry camp-outs. A sample:
This one is from a camp-out I did last summer at Y Lake in the Emigrant Wilderness. The camera catches that shade of blue only at the very top of the frame. The inherent suffering of backpacking becomes worth all the trouble when I see that sky, that color.
Tom you are right. To see that color sky in the early morning makes the previous days pain worth the trip.
