A popular Oregon trail along the PCT is no more, thanks to a chunk of glacier breaking off and causing havoc nearby.
The bottom line for hikers is that the popular walk to Pamelia Lake, nestled at the southwest base of Mount Jefferson, will be considerably more difficult and less scenic than they remember it.
And the Pacific Crest Trail will be virtually impassable at Milk Creek, where it once traversed gargantuan deposits from similar historic events, but now is blocked by a 50-foot-deep ravine that has vertical walls on both sides.
Sounds like some fun up that way.
A little 50 foot deep impassible ravine sounds like a lot more fun to traverse than a well groomed dirt trail to me!
Where’s my high angle climbing gear.. 😛

If you’re a through-hiker, you would have probably sent it home or sold it off over 1,500 miles earlier.
