Feather Falls new Oroville, California, sound interesting.
Nestled in the foothills at about 2,500 feet, the falls plunge 640 feet, making them the fourth-highest in California and the sixth-highest in the lower 48 states.
Most Bay Area folks either hike locally or go straight to the Sierra, which, I presume, means lots of perfectly good trails in the foothills get ignored.
The last time I visited Feather Falls was the ill – fated camping trip near Lake Almanor where I got hurt, 17 years ago. I remember what a cool hike it was, but in July you’ve got to be VERY wary of rattlers. I don’t recall more than a poorly maintained single – track trail at that time. But it’s worth a visit, especially now while there’s still water!
AMEN on that, Tom – many foothill trails and scenic venues get overlooked! (North Fork country, e.g.) Got to get you acquainted with that!
