Steve Sergeant sent me a note the other day that the Loma Prieta Chapter of the Sierra Club is planning its season kick-off meeting from 7 to 8:30pm April 9 at Sports Basement, 1177 Kern Ave, Sunnyvale. The meeting includes a slideshow, meeting, refreshments and prizes.
Here’s the chapter’s list of upcoming outings. Steve has has a fast-and-light outing coming up the weekend after next on the Ohlone Trail that looks promising. Many more during the summer hit the Sierra high country.
Incidentally, Steve’s theory of “fast and light” is thus: “It’s not miles per hour, it’s miles per day.” The Ohlone trip is 12 miles the first day (the first five will make you thankful you packed light), and 17 miles the second. It’s worth a look.
Thanks, Tom. I’m sorry you won’t be able to join us.
This meeting isn’t just for backpackers. It’s also for people who’ve ever though they might want to be backpackers, since we offer a comprehensive class to teach absolute beginners with no previous camping experience how to be safe and competent backpackers.
And my fast & light trips are only a fraction of the trips we offer. Some proceed much more leisurely and include rather gourmet meals provided by the leader at cost.
