Jeff has hiked John Muir Trail and the Appalachian trail, raising money/awareness for good causes and putting in trail miles and bag nights that would put most of us to shame. Mind you he’s trying to make a go of earning a living as a motivational speaker, so there’s ample shame going around (sorry, after Tom Cruise’s priceless “Seduce and Destroy” guy I’ll never look at the trade the same way again).
Jeff has written two books, one about how his his brother-in-law’s suicide motivated him to take his wife along for the JMT jaunt, and the other about walking the AT to raise money for the home that cares for his brother, who has cerebral palsy.
His latest thing is taking the kids hiking. Here’s an MP3 of an interview he did with a Cincinnati radio station. Lots of good advice. Jeff was iParenting.com’s Dad of the Month for September 2006. This page has more take-the-kids-along tips.
I figured a Post for Jeff would make up at least a little bit for all the free hiking copy I’ve been linking to since I started this blog. Can’t be easy to sell books with people like me around.
