Glacier National Park has been hit pretty hard by flooding on Tuesday, National Parks Traveler reports. From a Great Falls Tribune report on the flooding.
Floodwaters from a freak November rainstorm swept away a large chunk of the famous Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park on Tuesday and poured into the basement of the historic Many Glacier Hotel.
Mountainside creeks were transformed from trickles to torrents as up to nine inches of rain fell on the park’s northern peaks in 48 hours.
Runoff washed out an 80-to 100-foot section of the Sun Road on the east side between the tunnel and Siyeh Bend.
“It’s literally gone,” said park spokesman Matt Graves.
