Any of my hiking-blogging brethren interested in culling the best from the Class of 2007 thru-hikers who are posting at Trail Journals?
I’ve already looked over about a dozen potential Pacific Crest Trail hikers and I can only guess how many Appalachian Trail folks are already starting their journals. Too many for me to keep track of, for sure.
I know, the whole keeping a journal of the journals thing is a bit too postmodern, but I feel like it’s worth a the effort of a few of us to do a sortdown, finding the best posts and shining a light on the best writers. If we were really ambitious we could start a Trail Journals blog with various folks assigned to specific trails.
This feels like a more realistic approach: I’ll take on the PCT since it’s near where I live. The rest of ’em are up to the rest of you. If you like a trail and find a journaler who merits attention, put it on your blogs. When the venture capitalists come along throwing millions at us to reward this brilliant expression of Internet interactivity, I promise to share all the credit.
I usually follow a few CDT hikers through the season. My favorite 2006 hiker was Sidewinder (http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?trailname=4039), who rescued a dog the day he finished.
