The intrepid UK hiker has had to move his blog to http://www.andyhowell.info/trek-blog/ after a nasty server crash that seems to have consumed the whole of his blog without so much as a burp.
That reminds me, I think I’ll back up all my blogs now (because all this genius must be preserved for posterity).
There is an important point here Tom – yes these blogs should be recorded for posterity.
In the days before the web I used to use a UK conferencing system called CIX. For a while I administered a forum that discussed the Maastricht Treaty and its effect on the European Union. It was a fascinating and well-informed debate. Over the years people moved on and CIX asked me to archive some of the topics – which I did, storing them on floppy discs. The discs are now long gone but at least once a year I get an email from some academic or student asking if they can have access to the archive!
It didn’t seem that historical at the time, but thinking back it certainly was.
As for our current modest endeavours – well who knows?
