A Pacific Crest Trail thru-hiker named Moose recounts a busy town stop at Ashland, Oregon,
The rest of the day was a frantic race. We dropped our stuff in the room and ran to the bus stop. Caught the bus downtown to the main Post Office to pickup bounce boxes. Hit the outfitter real quick and then back on the bus to the Knights Inn. Got back to the room about 12:30 and immediately walked to Albertsons. Buying 24 days of food is a chore. You should have seen the look on the woman’s face at the checkout when I dumped 48 candy bars onto the line! My total food bill was $320. We had so much food we couldn’t carry it all. We left it in the carts and pushed them to the hotel. Now the fun part, building drops. We had 2.5 hours before the Post office closed to sort, box and address everything. It was a frenzy of food flying everywhere. We loaded all the boxes back into the shopping carts at 4:45 and ran to the Post Office. Made it just in time. Oregon has been great so far. Lots of fast, well graded trails. We’re making good time and hiking lots of miles.
I’m guessing he had to get back on the trail to get some rest.
