River of snot turning into a creek, but now my high-speed connection’s gone down. Life’s too short to blog at dial-up speeds.
Just hang in there folks, and visit many of the fine hiking links on the rail at left.

You’ve got a hellava ego if you think people
miss your blog that much.
For myself, I’m considering dropping it from
my Internet travels.
I had thought you were going to blog about Bay
Area hiking, but there’s damn little about that.
Instead you fill it with links to other blogs
that *aren’t* about the Bay Area. Indeed, you
have more blog entries with links to other blogs
than any other blog I read, bar none. I suspect
that, like myself, most people have neither the
time nor the inclination to read all that. Some
of us do have other interests.
Beyond that, there is your sad obsession with
equipment. One of the reasons I like hiking is
that lots of special gear *isn’t* required. All
you really need is a daypack. I wear regular
sneakers (little need for my hiking boots around
here) and carry my water in old plastic bottles.
You write well enough, at least compared to the
population at large, but the lack of focus is
starting to bore me. Certainly there are enough
issues and news regarding Bay Area hiking that
one could cover just that? Then maybe you’d get
a stronger following. Otherwise, you’re just
one more ego-centric blogger spouting off about
their own life, which frankly isn’t that compelling.

Wow, that guy is really critical! I think if you are going to be that nasty with your feedback you should at least leave a name! He really harps on you for caring about equipment. Contrasts how he brings old water bottles, sneakers etc. I have a story about crappy water bottles for “anon y mouse”…
A buddy came out with me on a three day hike and picked up his water bottle at the dollar store. Midway along our trip he asked me to throw his bottle down to him by the lake. I did. He missed. And we both heard it crack open on a rock! I then asked him how much he paid for his bottle. He said a dollar. I replied, “How many dollars are you going to waste before you buy a Nalgene?” We laughed about it. Good thing I had an extra bottle with me.
Anyway, just thought I’d take a moment to illustrate the importance of reliable equipment when you are miles and miles away from civilization. But I’m sure you are already aware of this =)
Nice blog by the way; I like your writing style; keep it up!
After a websearch I’ve found that Anon Y. Mouse’s true name is Iam A. Jackass.
Hmm, don’t see where you ever claimed that this would be a “Bay Area Hiking Blog” vs. a “A Hiking Blog”
In any case, you’ve consistently aggregated a nice mix of links and well written original content. Keep up the good work. FWIW, I’d gladly pay triple what you’re currently charging 🙂
Hope you’re feeling better.
I knew you guys would spring to my defense, thanks!
I’m getting better but my Web connection isn’t … I live out in the hills and borrow my landlord’s fixed-wireless connection; it takes a vacation every few months, so now it’s taking its time off.
I thoroughly enjoy your blog. Keep up the good writing & link listings. It really is nice to have common shared interests on hiking and reading about others experiences on the trail – and hearing about other parts of the USA’s hiking weather conditions, tera firma, etc…
The nonsense comments from such close minded, self centered persons such as “Anon Y. Mouse” are really a waste of time.
“It is one of the most beautiful compensations of life, that no man can sincerely try to help another without helping himself”- Ralph Waldo Emerson.
Write on, link on, hike on, but above all stay the course because you are doing good work!
I’ll have to agree. I actually enjoy the format of the site. It provides a good central place to find and read things. Keep up the good work.
Though I would also agree with the fact that there many political issues surrounding the environment, parks and hiking trails of this region (or any region for that matter). It would be good to get posts highlighting any developments. (ie. Coyote Valley development in San Jose, the progress of the Bay Area Ridge Trail, etc… We would never have the parks and trails we enjoy without the vision and dedication that other hikers and environmentalists gave to the cause.
