I had the wonderful experience of putting on two pairs of frozen footwear Sunday morning: my trail runners and the insulated, waterproof overboots I was covering them with.
Took pretty much all morning to warm my feet up after that.
Next time they go in a stuff sack at the foot of the sleeping bag.
“Some people put their boots in their sleeping bag so they’ll have warm shoes the next morning.”
This isn’t so much for *warm* shoes as it is *unfrozen* shoes. Waking up to frozen boots sucks quite a bit. Same goes for water bottles.

What I usually say is, “backpacking isn’t a vacation if you don’t enjoy the food.”
