In the interest of Google sending a few pig farmers our way (who will no doubt say, “sure, I walk through mud and feces all the time but it’s not my idea of recreation” ), I offer today’s links, some of which are a couple days old but hey, you can’t expect timeliness at these prices:
Little Po reports on her peak-bagging/backpacking adventure in the Black Range.
Hiker Deals finds a good price on Asolo boots.
Treknologies likes the looks of the Ursack anti-bear bag.
Cyberhobo soaked up some culture at the recital of a classical pianist.
The Dude went snowshoeing.
Arun trekked through lush Indian countryside to the site of an old train station.
Yosemite Blog has been posting some amazing pix submitted by readers.
Trailcast interviews the founder of Western Mountaineering.
Gadling links to a story about a guy looking for an undiscovered waterfall.
Jonathan Claxton checks out the John Muir Trail (bet you didn’t know Tennessee had one).
GoBlog has an especially cheerful batch of links about the consequences of global warming.
Re: John Muir Trail
Actually, Tennessee has two John Muir trails. The other runs for about 20 miles along the Hiwassee River in Polk County.
The intent may be to eventually join them into one long trail, but there doesn’t seem to be any effort on-going to make that happen.
RE: Hiker Deals
Not sure why you link to this site. He doesn’t really “trek” the web for all these deals. All he does is get the various links through his affiliate program where he makes 5-10% on each sale.
I would guess that the “content” of his posts are copy and pasted from the details listed through the affiliate site describing the product.
It’s hiking-related content and the guy does write from his own experience on a number of posts, though admittedly not all.
If the guy makes a couple bucks from his effort, well, that’s what we do at work every day and it’s not exactly a crime against humanity to be paid for stuff that has commercial value.
Commerce happens.
Hey Tom!
Thanks for the link & shoutout!
I have two-heeled drive linked to the dude abides.
I greatly enjoy stopping in here.
I’ll keep up the snowboarding and Montana exploration until hiking season begins…
Planning a backcountry trip to Glacier National Park… and it doesn’t get any better than that.
