HighSierraTopix has a thread on “meeting people in the backcountry” that generates tons of interesting ancecdotes. My favorite so far is one by Markskor of Sacramento called
The Kid from Tuolumne Store. It’s a bit long but must be read to the end to get the point of the story, which can be summed up as: you never know when something totally amazing will happen in the backwoods, but inevitably something always does.
Thanks for the kind words. My stories are not so much about what happens, but rather an attempt to give the reader a true feeling of backpacking highlights from my introspective position. After 30 years of visiting Yosemite, over 1500 bag nights, I am telling the history of the park from someone who has seen the trails….the evolution of the YPS philosophy…all deserve mention.
