Because you’re so much closer to Gatlinburg, where Jonathan the Weekend Blogger spent the weekend. He’s got some wonderful pix of the mountains nearby, and to my surprise, sharks at an aquarium. I’ve been to the town just once, during a trip to the World’s Fair in Knoxville in the early ’80s. I realize G’burg is a cheesy tourist trap, but oh, what hills it has for neighbors.
I certainly appreciate the shout-out to my pics. Thanks a lot and keep up the blog…best on the web!
Absolutely Gatlinburg is a mecca for tourist of all walks of life..some I wish we could hide away on a distant island. Pigeon Forge is closer to Las Vegas sans casinos and a hearty flavor of everything country…perfectly decorated with an hourly background chime from some red-neck
The one thing I remember most from being in the Smokies was going to this summer ski hill — you could ski on astroturf. There also was this giant toboggan run thing… you sat on a sled and flew down this concrete chute. My stepdad was still in his young-and-foolish phase and decided to test how save the sleds were; that is, would they go off the the course if you went too fast. Well, they did and he had nasty, bloody road rash for days afterwards.
