That’s the weird thing about duct tape — it might fix things too well.
The tape is often tougher than what is being patched together, and I’ve seen that happen with tents, ski gloves and truck radiator hoses.
A friend of mine — who will remain nameless — once wrapped a big wad of duct tape around a split in his radiator hose.
The original idea was to get the truck back from an eastern Oregon lake to civilization — and an auto parts store.
I followed this guy for 60-odd miles — all the way to his house — to make sure he got home.
I saw him on the river a couple of weeks later.
“How long did it take you to fix that hose?” I asked.
“Ahh, that duct tape is still holding,” he said.
That reminds me, I still have to wrap some on my hiking poles.
