I, of course, want only peace and harmony for the world’s peoples. And stuff coated with Gore-Tex (or EVent, because I respect all faiths. Speaking of which, here’s a nice comparison of Down vs. Synthetics from the folks at Sierra Trading Post.)
(By the way this is another chance for all of you lurkers to overcome your shyness and share your wisdom with the rest of the class. It’s entirely painless, I promise)
I want for all bloggers named “Tom” to become fabulously wealthy, and popular with the babes, and handsomer, and famous too.
That kind of stuff.
I want more people to appreciate America’s wild public lands, to the point where they’re willing to make wild places a priority in their political and everyday life. I want to see people who get outdoors learn the skills to take care of themselves, and to go light on the land.
Oh, and I want someone to design (and give to me to test, of course) a true professional-quality audio field recorder that weighs a lot less than 5 pounds.
What I really want for x-mas, is a big pile of snow in the Sierras in March for my planned trips to Mammoth and Yosemite, and good weather in the Anza-Borrego to feed my outdoor soul through the winter.
By the way, a Carbon Fiber Kayak paddle would be nice also.
I’m wishing for a bear canister (black bear country and I usually have trouble finding textbook bagging trees). I’m also dreaming of a sub-4 lb tent that will hold me, Beau, and the new pup I’ll be bringing home in May/June.
Hi. I love hiking. In 2001, I thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail. In 2004 I thru-hiked the Pacific Crest Trail. I like your site and agree with Tom Chandler’s comment.
I want the rest of Tom Harrison’s maps of the Sierra Nevada High Country. Those things are amazing.
I could also use a new bear canister since the lid cracked on mine last summer, but I’ll handle that come REI dividend season.
Warm light weight mittens and for Tom to keep writing this great blog for another year.
who wants peace, love, and harmony when you can have chocolate
I already received my Xmas gift Aug. 24 of this year!
OK, so, ummmm….world peace, a big fat offer to tell the 4WB story in a TV miniseries, and a cure for cancer of all kinds.
Other than that, I’m OK…
We had our Christmas early and I got a fancy GPS. During the same gift exchange I also received a book on Survival Wisdom and it talks about good old orienteering. The techno tools are fun but it reminded me to always be prepared with the basics. Merry Christmas and here’s to magnetic north.
Re-newed legs & lungs.
