Bay City News reports Santa Clara County is spending 1.7 million to add showers and RV sites at Coyote Lake.
Following construction, the camp area will feature 17 recreational vehicle campsites with water and electrical hookups, a shower facility, new landscaping and an amphitheatre. The project will also add a new trail between the existing Lakeview campground and the new camp area.
The Coyote Lake Campground is an OK locale for car camping, but for my money the best thing about it is what’s a few miles down the road: the Hunting Hollow entrance to Henry Coe State Park. You can backpack to your hearts content down there but your car-camping options are nada. It’s too hot to have much fun camping around Coe these days (though the main Coe campground was packed with folks hoping for a view of the Perseids Meteor Shower over the weekend), but next spring, which is when the county hopes to have these improvements finished.
