The real pathos emerges from the fact that he&#8217;s  trying valiantly to find work in his chosen field and nobody much wants a guy his age. <P>And this is just another of the ugly little facets of working as a reporter: if you can&#8217;t bring bylines at a salary they like, they give you the boot.
