Infomaniac<\/a> links to a photographer at a smalltown paper who frets that we’re getting Poynterized<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Our editor has signed all the reporters up to receive the daily blog called Al’s Morning Meeting. It is a blog supported by the Poynter Organization . The purpose of the blog is to feed ideas to reporters on national stories that have the potential to be ‘localized’. The problem I have with this is that it is a subtle homogenization of the news–and potentially makes reporters lazy and less creative in finding their own community stories.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Now, see, if this photog were a Testy Copy Editor<\/a> he’d know that Al’s Morning Meeting is rife with so much silliness that there’s precious little chance of sane editors getting any of Al’s ideas into their heads. (Wait, how many of us work for sane editors?)<\/p>\n

At the newspaper designers’ convention, <\/b>a drunk copy editor stumbles into the hospitality room and says to the bartender, “Hey, heard the one about the newspaper designer who –?”
\nThe bartender interrupts, saying, “Hey, you’re at a newspaper design convention. That 300-pound guy over there is a former professional wrestler and is a designer. The guy at your left is a managing editor who is a former Navy SEAL and has fired hundreds of reporters, and he’s a designer. The frowzy blonde chatting up that young reporter is an assistant features editor, and she’s a designer. Do you really want to be telling that joke in here?”
