And you don&#8217;t have to read it either, except if you&#8217;re perversely curious, because in fact it says nothing about how Gannett plans to finance this effort.<\/p>\n<p>\nThankfully, Romenesko links to a column by a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/Stories\/0,1413,36~73~1672284,00.html\">retired Denver newsie describing precisely what Gannett is up to<\/a>: Selling cutbacks as improvements.  <P>If newspapers do die off and nothing takes their place, we&#8217;ll have Gannett to thank for putting the idea in everybody&#8217;s head that there&#8217;s money to be made in local news by buying into one-paper towns and bleeding them dry. <P>I&#8217;ll save the annoying extended rant about the evils of the Gannett corporation   for another day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gannett all the sudden has discovered that local news is where it&#8217;s at.
