A few online newspapers lucky enough to have pro sports teams in their markets have been trying to make a go of subscriptions services. The folks in Dallas found out that their biggest source of potential subscribers came from people who lived outside the Dallas media market.
It’s funny how one of the first things people learned about online newspapers — they’re really popular among people who’ve moved away — remains true today. And I wonder how many online news sites are really going after those readers. (Link via Romenesko).
