Doug Clifton, Vietnam vet, on the coverage of Bush & Kerry’s war records:
So to Bush’s detractors: Why demean him for doing what anyone with any sense would have done? If you can escape getting shot at by an angry enemy, why not?
And to the Kerry detractors: Why demean his valiant service because he had the good sense afterward to denounce a stupid war?
I would also suggest we consider the attitude of insurance companies when they write policies for young male drivers: the premiums don’t fall till the guys get old enough to acquire a lick of sense. The time before age 25 should be called The Stupid Years and our answer for our behavior is as follows: We’re sorry; we were idiots trying to avoid responsibility or get laid.
Update: Sheila Lennon has a bunch more links about this dustup.
