It’s good that all those folks working in one of those newsrooms will keep their jobs, now that the JOA’s been upheld again. But there’s always been something fraudulent about JOAs — under the guise of preserving editorial voices, newspapers combine advertising and business functions, create a local advertising monopoly and gouge the hell out of anybody who needs to buy advertising space to make a play for the attention of people who buy newspapers.
It’s a lie we’d never let any other business get away with.
