Tracking police hiring

Derek Willis of The Scoop points to an interesting bit of reportage in the Dallas Morning News:

One recently hired officer had to pay $1,200 in traffic tickets and drove with a suspended license 8 months before being fired. The names of the officers were provided to the paper by other police colleagues, “many of whom said they were dismayed by the department’s diminished hiring standards and the questionable character of some rookie officers.”

Sounded like an interesting story idea — would be interesting to see how many other municipalities have similar problems.

Speaking of the News: Nicole Stockdale has just started her new job on the desk there. We’re all waiting on pins & needles for details.
